The Last Preparations for the Pluralism and Difference Conference are done and is soon to be Launched at An-Najah
The Preparatory Committee of the Pluralism and Difference from an Islamic Perspective Conference which will be organized at An-Najah University in partnership with the British Council has concluded all preparations to launch this major event on July 4th 2012 at Zafer Al-Masri Auditoriums.
The Conference is organized by the Faculties of Educational Sciences and Islamic Law and aims to address the striking changes that are taking place in the Islamic and Arab world and discuss the concepts of pluralism and freedom of speech.
The Conference will host the British researcher, Jane Kinnnimont, one of the leading researchers in the Middle East and North Africa Program at Chatham House.
Dr. Naser El-Dein Al-Sha’er that the conference will discuss a number of topics such as the foundations of pluralism and its historical roots, the idea of pluralism as a cosmic phenomenon, the manifestations of pluralism and difference in Islamic intellect, as well as pluralism in other cultures.
Other topics will be the reality of pluralism and its impact on development in the Islamic world, the legislations and guarantees for the right of pluralism and difference, the trends of the Islamic society regarding pluralism, the role of media and technology in pluralism, the internal and external obstacles and their impact on pluralism, in addition to co-existence between the different ethnicities inside the Islamic community.
The conference will also discuss the future of pluralism in the Islamic world through the role of universities and the different scientific institutions in instilling the concepts and principles of pluralism, the trends of the Arab and Islamic societies toward pluralism and freedom, and the anticipation of future in light of the current changes.
Mrs. Caroline Khalaf, Director Assistant for Programs’ Affairs at the British Council, said the conference and the type of partnership between the Council and An-Najah are part of a project for the internationalization of higher education in order to create long-term and multiple partnerships between the higher education sector and the government and business sectors.
