September 8th. An-Najah University hosted the Jericho House Theatre in the United Kingdom which performed the ”Tempest” play by Shakespeare at Hikmat Al-Masri Amphitheater at the New Campus. A large number of students and employees attended the play.

The play was performed in English along with Arabic translation provided through displays. The Play’s main theme talked about an ancient refuge midway between Europe and the Middle East where a cluster of exiles, embittered and grieving, contests histories and territories. Weighed down by the past, ambitious for the future, they contend with peculiar states of alienation and illusion.

Seduced and coerced by what they hear, misled by what they see, in the end all are brought together by a process that looks a lot like magic, so that some sort of balance can be restored; not by the machinations of the enchanter or his rivals, but by the passionate sincerity of their children.
