November 1st 2010. The Representative of Japan to the Palestinian National Authority Mr. Naofumi Hashimoto presented a certificate of honor to Dr. Walid Basha, the instructor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University, in an official ceremony that was organized in Ramallah. Attendees included the Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Haruhisa Takeuchi. The certificate was presented to Dr. Basha in recognition of his efforts in promoting the Japanese culture in Palestine.
 
Mr. Hashimoto said that his country values the efforts that Dr. Basha exerted to promote the Japanese culture through different means including workshops, cultural activities and events which familiarized the locals with the Japanese culture and civilization.
 

He also praised Dr. Basha's role in promoting and familiarizing the Palestinians with the Origami art through holding a number of workshops and lectures. Origami is the traditional Japanese folk art of paper folding which started in the 17th century.; it involves a number of basic folds that can be manipulated in a number of ways to create magnificent designs and shapes.
 
On his part, Dr. Basha thanked the Japanese Government for the support it provided to him and his family during his study in Japan to obtain the Master and PhD degrees in Microbiology. He also announced for the Origami Project which will include the making of 1000 shapes that will assume the shape of the Egret bird, a symbol of peace and love. Upon completion, those Origami shapes will be presented to the Japanese Representative and will be sent to Hiroshima in Japan.
