On March 23rd, the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations, An-Najah National University branch, held its third meeting at the University. Attendees included Prof. Anwar Dudin, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Waleed Basha, Coordinator of the Federation’s Affairs, in addition to the administrative and faculty staff and more than 120 students from the Faculty of Medicine.

Masters of ceremonies were Hadi Rabi’ and Razan Abu Khaizaran. In the meeting, Prof. Dudin gave a speech in which he expressed his happiness to meet with the students emphasizing the pioneering role of the Federation at the University. He also urged the administrative board to work on achieving the Federation’s unity and expand the scope of activities that this federation carries out.

On his part, Dr. Basha, Coordinator of the Federation and Head of the Microbiology and Immunology Department at the Faculty of Medicine, welcomed the students and said this federation is a very important part of the University as it contains students from the different academic stages. He also stressed the necessity to provide support to this federation and ensure its continuous development and progress. Moreover, he informed the students that the Federation will launch a campaign to collect donations that will be dedicated to support the Japanese who were affected by the latest earthquake that struck Japan.

Dr. Ghassan Abu Hijleh, Instructor at the Faculty of Medicine, gave a speech in which he expressed his proud to have such a federation at the University that gives the students huge advantages and opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities that would help them develop on all levels. He also encourages first year students to get involve in this federation and take part in the various activities in organizes.

President of the Federation, An-Najah branch, student Omar Hosni Abu Zaideh expressed his happiness to witness such wide participation on the part of the students which indicates their interest in such idea. He also hoped that he and the Federation’s administrative board would rise to the challenge of keeping this federation in the lead and ensure its continuous development which would, as a result, provide the students with more services and involve them in further activities.

After that, a film was featured, made by Abdullah Hamadneh and Riham Ghanem, which described the Federation’s establishment in Palestine, the most important projects and activities that the Federation has been able to accomplish over the last years as well as the most significant activities that it achieved on the level of the Faculty of Medicine.

Student, Hisham Hussein, spoke about the Federation, its structure, the most important activities it carries out and the committees that make up the Federation. He explained that the Federation consists of five main committees including: the Public Health Committee, the Medical Education Committee, the Student Exchange Committee as well as the Human Rights and Refugees Committee. Hussein described the main role of each committee and the activities of each within the Federation.

At the end of the meeting, a training session was organized through which Abdullah Hamadneh aimed to enable the students acquire several skills that would help them build their professional life and acquire experience that would help them learn how to manage projects.

In the meeting also, more than 80 first year students joined the Federation after they were impressed by the its wide range of activities and the projects it was able to accomplish at the University. Those students also promised to work hard to make this Federation among the best both regionally and internationally.
