The intensive training course on learning modern biotechnologies was successfully concluded at the University. The course lasted for five days between the 9th and 13th of July; key supervisors were Dr. Ayman Hussein from the Faculty of Medicine at An-Najah, and Dr. Atyyeh Abdullah, a visiting professor from the University of London in the UK. Dr. Hussein and Dr. Abdullah are experts in biotechnology used in diagnosing genetic diseases, Leukemia and Lymphoma.

The trainees were trained on how to isolate the genetic material (DNA) from the blood and then use it in the PCR technology and the Real-Time PCR to diagnose the genetic disease that causes Factor V Leiden Thrombophilia which is an inherited disorder of blood clotting, and the Leukemia known as Philadelphia Chromosome. The trainees also learned many technologies used to deal with DNA and PCR.

The course also included a detailed explanation and training on the Flow Cytometer which is used to diagnose cancer depending on the detection of the type and number of cancer cells that exist in blood and tissues.

The participants in the course said it is important to run similar courses in the future due to its significant role in transferring the knowledge from laboratories to the local society.
