The Faculty of Science at An-Najah Inaugurates the Second Palestinian-French Science Festival
Under the auspices of An-Najah University’s President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, and in partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Al-Nayzak Organization for Supportive Education and Scientific Innovation, the French Consulate General and the UNESCO, the Faculty of Science at An-Najah inaugurated the Second Palestinian-French Science Festival.
Attendees to the inauguration ceremony included Prof. Maher Abu Eid, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Mr. Frédéric Desagneaux, French Consul General at the French Consulate General in Jerusalem, Dr. Sulaiman Khalil, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Mrs. Sahar Aqqoub, Director of Education in Nablus Governorate, Mrs. Thahab Musleh, Director of Programs and Projects at Al-Nayzak, Mr. Hazem Abu Hilal, from Al-Nayzak, in addition to a number of Faculties’ Deans as well as members of the administrative and academic staff at the Faculty.
The Exhibition mainly targets school students to introduce them to the various scientific inventions and innovations. Students from the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Medical technology, as well as biological technologies presented advanced experiments and advanced scientific tests to the visitors. A number of school students who were selected by the Ministry of Education to display various scientific experiments and inventions.
Al-Nayzak also participated in the Exhibition in which it presented rational thinking games, in addition to critical and creative thinking which is used in Al-Nayzak’s educational programs.
The Exhibition also included “The Eye and Vision” exhibition that focused on issues related to optometry and vision. There was also the chemistry and biology exhibition which linked scientific rules in chemistry and biology with different experiments that produce food and detergents. The French exhibition focused on the olive tree and addressed several aspects related to the geographical distribution and characteristics of the olive tree, in addition to olive culture, production and other areas related to sustainable development.
The Exhibition also included a special corner dedicated for oceans and climate in French and Arabic which aimed to increase the public awareness regarding the role that oceans play in determining and affecting the global climate. Additionally, the Exhibition presented educational means products for the students of the Faculty of Science.
Prof. Abu Eid and the Consul General visited the different parts of the Exhibition where they were introduced to the many inventions and scientific innovations that the students displayed.
Dr. Khalil mentioned that the Exhibition came as a result of the collective efforts by the Ministry of Education, Al-Nayzak Organization, the French Consulate General, the UNESCO, and the La Voix Del Enfantk. The Exhibition also represented a chance for the different Palestinian universities to work together and cooperate to achieve unique results.
