On Sunday, April 25^th 2010, the Faculty of Nursing at the University held a scientific conference titled "Midwifery and Nursing, Present and Future" at Martyr Zafer Al-Masri Auditorium. Prof. Maher Abu Eid, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Adnan Sarhan, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Dr. Anan Al-Masri, Deputy Minister of Health and others attended the event.

Dr. Sarhan spoke about the Faculty of Nursing at the University and said that since its establishment in 2004, the Faculty has made a substantial progress such as the opening of the Midwifery program as well as the Mental and Societal Health Master program. He also emphasized that the Faculty plans to send a number of students to pursue their higher studies in other countries and gain more experience in this field.

Dr. Sarhan further mentioned that the new building of the Faculty will be opened next year. He also valued the support and participation of the Ministry of Health in the events that the Faculty of Nursing holds such as the recently held conference on blood diseases.

"In an attempt to encourage scientific research, we have established a special webpage to receive midwifery and nursing researches from different Palestinian and Arab universities and institutions" said Dr. Sarhan emphasizing that the Faculty is concerned with supporting research in Palestine so as to achieve more development in this field.

Dr. Al-Masri stated that nursing in Palestine requires more attention and support through holding more conferences to discuss the demands of this field. He also added that there are social obstacles that limit the role of nursing as a career in Palestine, therefore, this field must be supported and respected since it plays a major role in the health sector in the Palestinian society.
