July 17^th. The Faculty of Nursing at An-Najah University organized a workshop on Thalassemia in which Mr. Mahmoud Daraghma, Coordinator of the Thalassemia Patients Friends Society in the North. Attendees included Samah Shtayyeh from the Faculty of Nursing and students enrolled in the Introduction to Nursing course at the Faculty.

At the beginning of the meeting, Shtayyeh welcomed the guest and thanked him for his interest in visiting the University and lecturing in front of its students.

Mr. Daraghma presented an interesting scientific lecture in which he spoke about Thalassemia, its definition, types and the accompanying symptoms. He also spoke about the percentage of people who suffer from this illness and explained that such people must be accepted by their own society. Many patients suffering from this illness are subject to unfair treatment by others which causes tremendous psychological impacts on them making it very hard for them to recover or even accept cure.

In the workshop, one of the Thalassemia patients was hosted who spoke about himself and his experience with this illness and familiarized the students with the nature of symptoms that it brings about. He also described how he was able to live with it and go on in his life as a normal person. Moreover, he advised the attendants to pay attention to this illness and to try to diagnose it as early as possible especially for those who are preparing for marriage.
