The Faculty of Fine Arts Organizes a Workshop for the Scottish Artist Jane Frere
21 March 2010
On March 21st 2010, the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University organized, in cooperation with the British Council, a workshop for the Scottish Artist, Jane Frere. The workshop was organized as part of the "Palestine in the Eyes of Young Artists" exhibition that was inaugurated on March 18th 2010 at the Faculty.
The workshop targeted students of Painting at the Faculty in which Frere presented a number of paintings that embodied the life of the Palestinian people. Frere also mentioned that she has worked in Palestine for five years and that her role as an artist is to try to embody the ideas and values she learned about the life in Palestine in her work.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Hajj Hamad, instructor at the Faculty, described the workshop as important to the Palestinian art students who would learn a lot from international artists. Dr. Suha Al-Khuffash, Director of the cultural projects at the British Council said that such courses reflect cooperation efforts between the Council and different Palestinian institutions in the field of art.
At the end of the workshop, a discussion session was held between Frere and the students in which they discussed the different points of view regarding art.
