The Faculty of Engineering Participates in an International Conference in Jordan
04 October 2010
On October 4th 2010, Dr. Ahmed Al-Ramahi, Head of the Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering Departments at the Faculty of Engineering at An-Najah University, and Dr. Mohammed Abu-Hilal, instructor at the two departments, participated in the Seventh Jordanian International Mechanical Engineering Conference (JIMEC). The JIMEC was organized by the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) in partnership with Philadelphia University in Amman under the auspices of Her Highness Princess Sumaya Bint El-Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS).
Attendees included Arab and international experts in the field of mechanical engineering who participated with more than 80 referred work papers in the different fields of mechanical engineering such as: Renewable energy, industrial engineering, thermal powers, applied mechanics, mechatronics, modeling and simulation. Additional 23 international experts were also invited to take part in the conference including distinguished researchers from the United States, Germany and Canada.
Dr. Al-Ramahi presented a work paper titled "Experimental Study of Drawing Force vs. Drawing Stroke", while Dr. Abu-Hilal participated with two work papers titled "Evaluating Thermal Performance of Solar Cooker under Jordanian Climate" and "Thermal Analysis of Discrete Water Supply in Domestic Hot Water Storage Tank". Dr. Al-Ramahi said that the conference focused on the academic and applied aspects of the subject being discussed; it enriched the participants' knowledge and enhanced their professional competency.
Dr. Nabil Dmaidi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at An-Najah, mentioned that the Faculty is continuously and deeply concerned with such events and looks forward to holding its engineering conference by the beginning of the next year. He added that such conferences play a major role in enhancing the participants' expertise both on the academic and professional levels.
As part of the conference, the InterBuild Jordan Fair 2010 was inaugurated by a Representative of Her Highness Princess Basma, Abdullah Obeidat, President of the Jordan Engineers Association, and Dr. Mohammad Awwad, Vice President of Philadelphia University. More than 100 companies from Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, India, Kuwait, Thailand and Jordan participated in the Fair. Those companies specialize in different fields such as: construction industries, building materials, interior design, illumination, mechanical engineering equipments, heating systems, air conditioning, insulation materials, mechanical extensions in buildings, energy, renewable energy and engineering books.
The Seventh JIMEC aims to address current issues in research in the various fields of mechanical engineering and provide the participants with the opportunity to discuss new ideas and expand their knowledge in the field of mechanical engineering.
