The Faculty of Engineering Holds a Workshop at the University

On March 14th 2010, the Faculty of Engineering at the University held a workshop titled "Developing the Academic Performance at the Faculty of Engineering". Dr. Nabil Dmaidi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University, in addition to 100 of the Faculty staff attended the event. "The Faculty of Engineering was able to achieve numerous awards. For example, it claimed the first place in the Palestinian Graduation Projects Competition that was held at the Polytechnic University in Hebron and won a number of awards like the "Zuheir Hijjawi for Applied Sciences" Award." said Dr. Dmaidi.
He also stated that the Faculty of Engineering at An-Najah is the best of its kind in Palestine and that its graduates are among the best in the Arab world. Dr. Dmaidi also added that this workshop focuses on topics like developing the academic performance of students, instructors and Faculty members in the fields of engineering education. The workshop was directed by Dr. Suleiman A-Daifi, Head of the Industrial Engineering Department at the University. The participants were divided into groups each of which dealt with a specific issue and tried to find solutions for it.


Dr. Ahmed Al-Rumahi, member of the Planning and Development Committee at the Faculty of Engineering, mentioned that such a meeting is important because it highlights the points of weakness and thus suggests proper solutions for them. He added that the purpose of this workshop was to focus on studying the educational process elements at the Faculty that will help to develop the academic performance of students as well as that of instructors. The participants further recommended more practical materials and field work to be included in the Faculty\'s curriculum.
The Engineering Communication Center (ECC), which is part of the Faculty\'s Board, has also participated in the workshop. Dr. Muhammad Dawikat, Director of the ECC, described the workshop as important to the development of the Faculty. Dr. Dmaidi concluded the workshop by stating that it is important to collect feedback from students of the Faculty in order to know the points that should be developed. He also assured that the recommendations of this workshop will be studied in order to achieve more regarding academic development of the Faculty.
