On November 4th 2010, the Engineering Communication Center at the Faculty of Engineering at the University organized a lecture for Professor Jawad Fatayer, President Assistant for Graduate Affairs. The lecture was titled "My Personality and How Others Perceive Me" in which Professor Fatayer spoke about leadership and decision making skills in addition to a number of behaviors and skills that a person must possess.

Professor Fatayer also spoke about social intelligence and explained that this type of intelligence is like a bridge that a person builds with others which indicates his ability to establish social relationships with them. This intelligence is also related to how a person can control his relationships with people if something wrong goes on and the ability to manage crises and respond to different situations effectively.

He also emphasized that graduates will be part of the wider social context in which they will work as effective members and thus need to be aware of the skills required to perform in the best way. He also spoke about how a person can control his / her voice and its different levels as well as other topics including first impression and the importance of external look.

Furthermore, Professor Fatayer explained the meaning of leadership as the ability to influence others and direct them towards a specific course to achieve certain goals. Certain characteristics must be found in a person if he is to be a successful leader including advanced communication skills, ability to take decisions, commitment to his institution and work, and the ability to support others and provide encouragement.

Prorfessor Fatayer then concluded the lecture by talking about the importance of mastering both Arabic and English and said that, combined with electronic skills, linguistic skills are key elements in the personality of an engineering student. He finally spoke about the emotional intelligence which means that a human being is not a physiological being only, but he is an emotional one too. Emotional intelligence indicates a person's ability to control his emotions in different situations.

Students and attendants expressed their admiration by the richness of the lecture and the smooth presentation by Professor Fatayer. Dr. Nabil Dmaidi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, said that the Faculty pays great attention to the quality of its graduates and added that the Competency Development Council will draw important paths for the students that will guarantee further development of their personalities and skills.

The Competency Development Council headed by Professor Fatayer seeks to enhance students' different skills and abilities through focusing on four major areas of intelligence: Linguistic, electronic, emotional and social intelligence.
