On October 24th 2010, the Engineering Communication Center (ECC) of the Faculty of Engineering at the University in cooperation with Injaz Palestine institution started the Personal Competency Development Program of engineering students. The program aimed to equip engineering students with social and life skills that would enhance their abilities in involving themselves in the different situations of life.

The meeting was organized at the Faculty of Engineering Auditoriums at the New Campus where more than two hundred students attended. Mrs. Rasha Aqqad, Operations Director at Injaz Palestine-Nablus Office, presented a number of successful experiences that the institution had with school and university students. She also explained several programs that Injaz runs which are related to students including "How to Be a Leader" and "A Life Project".

Students were deeply involved in discussions with Mrs. Aqqad regarding issues related to their education and the possible ways to improve their skills and enhance their ability to be involved in the society. Dr. Nabil Dmaidi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, said that due to the gap between students' education and the requirements of the work market, the Faculty has realized that graduates have little practical experience which hinders their participation in the real work field. He added that social skills are very important for the students because they live in a social context and they need to know how to deal with others in the right way.

This social intelligence is one of the four pivots on which the Competency Development Council at the University is concentrating in order to produce graduates who are fully prepared to participate effectively in the work field. The aim of the Council is to make An-Najah graduates compete not only on local or regional levels, but also on the international one.

Engineer Muhammad Dwaikat, Director of the ECC, said that the Center focuses on providing students with practical skills through experienced trainers who teach students how to hone their skills to become competent engineers.
