On July 4th 2010, a delegation from the German Development Service (DED) that included Dr. Jürgen Wilhelm, Director General of the DED, Mr. Ivica Zemin, a German expert in the field of alternative energy, and Mrs. Gabriel Schmidt, from the Private Sector Development at DED visited Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology.

The delegation was received by Dr. Naser Aloul, Secretary General at Hijjawi, and Dr. Ghassan Hilo, Dean of the College, in addition to a number of professors and instructors. The visit included a bilateral meeting in which both sides discussed the ties of cooperation between Hijjawi College and the DED.

In the meeting, Dr. Aloul stressed the importance of maintaining cooperation between Germany and Palestine with respect to the development of vocational training and education in Palestine. He also expressed the College's desire to hire more experts from Germany to handle other fields, especially in the field of renewable energy which has become increasingly important.

Dr. Wilhelm, in turn, mentioned that Germany is deeply concerned with strengthening cooperation with the different Palestinian institutions and added that the level of development that the College has reached encourages German experts to continue supporting this institution.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the different laboratories and workshops at the College, especially the Automobile Technology Department which witnesses extensive work on a project to produce cars that use alternative energy.

The DED supports the College with a first-of-its-kind lab that is specially built to design cars that work on alternative energy such as the solar power and hydrogen. Through this lab, students will be able to obtain more experience in the field of alternative energy and sharpen their skills in dealing with hybrid vehicles.
