24 May 2010
Between the 18th and 19th May 2010, Dr. Shihdeh Joudeh, Director of the Chemical, Biological and Drugs Analysis Center (CBDA) at the University, participated in a regional workshop in Beirut, Lebanon titled "Carbon Footprint for Products".
Dr. Joudeh mentioned that the CBDA's participation in the workshop was to continue the work that had started earlier on the international standards draft ISO-14076 which is being prepared and implemented by the International Organization for Standardization in Sweden. According to this standard (ISO-14076) an exporter is required to provide details along with the exported goods that include a full analysis of all the elements that might cause the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in these goods.

At the conclusion of the workshop the participants advised dedicating more work on modifying some parts of this standard. It is important to mention here that Sweden is working on providing countries in the Mediterranean and North Africa with all kinds of support regarding the implementation of the new standard.
