The Department of Nursing and Midwifery at An-Najah Holds a Course on Primary and Advanced Care of Patients with Burn Injury
The Department of Nursing and Midwifery at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at An-Najah held a course that addressed the primary and advanced care of patients with different types of burns and cold burns “Frostbite” for the second-year students at the Department.
Several members of staff at the Department participated in the course including: Dr. Aidah Al-Kaissi, Head of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, Dr. Adnan Sarhan, Mrs. Najwa Subuh, Mrs. Mahdiyya Al-Koni, Mrs. Rahija Aawni, Mrs. Fatima Hirzallah, Mr. Nizar Said, and Mr. Ayman Inaya, Head of the Burns Department at Rafidia Hospital in Nablus.
Dr. Al-Kaissi started the course with her speech in which she spoke about the importance of the course, its main objectives and philosophy. She then described the subjects that the course will be addressing including: The identification of the potential threat in the accident site “Before transferring the patient to the hospital”, providing primary care to the injured in a proper way during the first few hours after the injury which can have a profound impact on long-term results, identifying the size and severity of the injury, identifying the priorities of care and evacuating the multiple injuries in time of disasters as well as evaluating and fixing the patient’s burn in the accident site before transferring him to the hospital.
The participants also discussed burns’ forms, the degrees of burns, how to treat them at home and the kitchen, factory burns, burns in recreational places, burns that result from inhaling smoke, chemical burns, electrical burns, and cold burns “Frostbite”.
At the end of the course Dr. Al-Kaissi thanked the academic and administrative staff for their contribution and participation in the activity which added to the students’ knowledge and experience in their field of specialization.
