On September 13^th, the Department of French at the University organized an orientation meeting for its fresh students who joined the Department in the current 2011/2012 academic year. Attendees included Dr. Maha Atmeh, Head of the Department, a number of the teaching staff and students.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Atmeh welcomed the fresh students and presented a description of the Department’s history explaining that it was first established in 2001. She also said that the Department offers a 146-hour Bachelor Degree Program in French. Additionally, she introduced the students to the Department’s objectives, courses and registration mechanism.

Dr. Atmeh also praised the increasing number of students who join the French Department at An-Najah which indicates the increased interest in this field of study among the Palestinians. Furthermore, she introduced the students to the International youth Exchange Program (Zajel) which works as a linking point between students and teachers. The students were also introduced to the different courses that they are going to study.

At the end of the meeting the students were also introduced to the Francophone Resources Center at the Department of French which offers various resources of study for the students.
