The Competency Development Council at the University Holds its Third Meeting

On November 26th 2010, the Competency Development Council at the University held its third meeting presided by Professor Jawad Fatayer, University President Assistant for Graduate Affairs and Head of the Council, as well as the Council's members from the University staff and local institutions.
The meeting included approving on the minute of the second meeting which was previously held on October 27th 2010. The members of the Council discussed the importance of enhancing the University students' competency in English and to work on pinpointing aspects of weakness in their English. They also suggested hiring international volunteers to help students at the University improve their English and sharpen their skills in this field. Moreover, they called for more emphasis on adopting new teaching styles and methods that would include more involvement of the student in speaking, reading and conducting research in English.
The Council's members also reviewed several issues related to different professional skills including time management skills, endurance, prevention against addiction, accepting the other and the different, analytic thinking, focusing on the quality of achievement and quality management and others.
They also discussed the contribution of the owners of local civil society institutions in developing the graduate and discussed the gap between academic education and practical work which means that the faculties need to involve more practical training and work in the academic process in order to develop the students' practical skills.
