The British Consul General in Jerusalem Visits the University upon Leaving Palestine

On Tuesday, October 19th 2010, the University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, received in his office at the Old Campus Mr. Richard Edward Makepeace, the British Consul General in Jerusalem, upon leaving Palestine after his mission as a consul has ended.
In the meeting, Prof. Hamdallah welcomed the Consul and praised the role that he played during his service period, especially with respect to reinforcing cooperation between the Consulate General and the University. He also valued his efforts to maintain strong relationships between the Consulate and the University regarding academic cooperation and exchange and hoped that such joint work will continue in the future.

Prof. Hamdallah also thanked Mr. Makepeace for his work in Palestine and said that the University is highly proud and happy to have such relationships with the British Consulate General in Jerusalem. He pointed out the importance of holding and developing relationships with the Consulate in the different fields of life, particularly education so that students could benefit from the opportunities that such cooperation creates for them. The President also hoped that the cooperation between the two institutions would expand and develop further with the Consulate and the new consul who will take responsibilities after Mr. Makepeace.
On his part, Mr. Makepeace thanked Prof. Hamdallah and the University staff and expressed his pleasure to be in Palestine in general and at An-Najah in particular. He also described the close relationships that the Consulate had with the University during his service period in Palestine. He said that this relationship was supported and reinforced thanks to Prof. Hamdallah's efforts and concern with supporting education in the country.
He added that cooperation between the Consulate and the University offers great opportunities for Palestinian students to pursue their studies at different British universities and colleges. The numerous exchange programs and higher studies projects and scholarships are open to students in Palestine thanks to the academic cooperation that the Consulate General in Jerusalem holds with the University which he hoped to continue so that more students could benefit from it.
