On Wednesday, April 13th, the American Studies Resource Center at An-Najah University organized a workshop titled “Inequality, Crisis and Changing Policies in America” presented by Professor Mehrene Larudee. Attendees included Dr. Ayman Nazzal, Director of the American Studies Resource Center, a number of English majors and others.

Professor Larudee spoke about the economical problems and crises that result from the inequality that exists among the different classes of the American society especially that kind of inequality that the middle and working classes experience. This has affected and changed the American economical policies and led to the economical gap that began to take its place because of such inequality.

Furthermore, Professor Larudee linked the class gap in the American society with the deteriorating economical situation in the Arab world which became worse especially after the revolutions that swept over many countries in the region.

Professor Larudee also spoke about the American aids to some Arab countries explaining that there will be a shortage in American aids to these countries due to the economical situation in the United States. This would make a difference in the scale of these aids between the Arab countries and Israel which receives around 3 billion dollars from the U.S. annually.

The Professor discussed and exchanged ideas with the attendants around related issues and answered their questions.
