Students, staff and local dignitaries were moved to cheers and to tears during yesterday's screening of Mai Muneeb al-Masri's film, 'Frontiers of Dreams and Fears'.

The Palestinian director addressed the audience and drew attention to the dreams and hopes of the Palestinian people, and especially the youth - their daily challenge, and most of all, their frontier-crossing strength of purpose.

The huge audience more than filled the largest theater on campus, and included University President Dr. Rami Hamdallah, the Famous Palestinian business man Muneeb Al-Masri and a number of personalities from local institutions.

The movie tells the story of two Palestinian girls, Mona from Shatila refugee camp in Lebanon, and Manar from Dheishe camp in Bethlehem. Having met on the internet, they share their dreams and fears giving birth to a strong friendship, culminating in their eventual rendez vous on the South Lebanon border.

The film was previously rewarded with many awards like the first prize of the Arab World Academy Festival in Paris, Al-Esmailiya Festival in Egypt, the Environment Movie Festival in Barcelona, Women’s Movie Festival in Turin and the Juries special award of Beirut Movie Festival, the film was screened in different countries in the world and locally in the movie theater of Ramallah.

After the film, Mai al-Masri was awarded a plaque by Prof Rami Hamdallah, the niversity President, Al-Masri graduated from San Francisco University, USA, and has directed and produced several movies receiving over 45 awards.
