Starting the New Academic Year at the University
The University's new academic year 2010-2011 has just started on August 22nd 2010 where more than 19000 students from the various parts of Palestine returned back to their classes and classrooms after the holiday. Students have completed the registration of courses according to the study plans of each faculty and department at the University. More than 400 new students have joined the University this year after they have successfully graduated from high school.
The University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, mentioned that the University was able to successfully complete the second semester of the year 2009-2010. He added that the University, thanks to the efforts and dedication shown by its staff and students, was able to finish the Summer Semester on time. The academic year 2009-2010 was marked with a number of significant achievements both on the academic and administrative levels. New facilities have been introduced to the University such as the new media center and the new faculty of media, the new library, in addition to many others.
Prof. Hamdallah also emphasized that the University will work on making the new academic year as successful and distinguished as the last academic year. He further wished all the staff and students at the University a successful year and stressed that the University will provide whatever needed to continue its quest for academic excellence and uniqueness.
It is important to mention that the University is amongst the largest universities in Palestine when it comes to the number of academic programs available. The University includes 71 Bachelor programs, 38 Master programs and one PhD program in Chemistry. The new academic year comes in conjunction with the new ranking the University has received by the Webometrics (Ranking Web of World Universities) which ranked it first in Palestine, fifth in the Arab world and number 1160 internationally from among 20,000 universities in the world.
Also, the opening of the new media center, the new faculty of media and the New Campus Library are among the most noticeable and significant achievements that the University has made over the course of the last academic year.
