On February 27^th, in cooperation with the Civil Defense in Nablus, the Public Safety Committee at the University ran a simulated evacuation exercise for the Faculty of Science at the New Campus. 

Prior to the evacuation, the University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, received in his office at the Old Campus Brigadier Ahmed Riziq, Director-General of the Palestinian Civil Defense and Karim Amira, Director of the Civil Defense in Nablus.

Prof. Hamdallah valued the great effort that the Civil Defense exerts to ensure the safety of the citizens and the society alike. He also praised the efforts that the specialized crews exerted to run the evacuation at the Faculty of Science. Furthermore, he assured the University’s readiness to cooperate with the Palestinian Civil Defense in issues related to public safety.

On his part, Brigadier Riziq welcomed the University’s cooperation and thanked it for facilitating the simulated evacuation through providing the necessary experts who work at the different scientific centers at the University including the Earth Sciences and Seismic Engineering Center.

The evacuation process was smooth, highly coordinated and successful and there was a substantial harmony between the different volunteering evacuation teams including the Civil Defense, the Red Crescent, as well as the Palestinian security forces.

More than 2500 people were evacuated at the same time from the 18000 m², 9-floor building of the Faculty of Science.
