Prof. DDD Shani, President of the World Council of Optometry (WCO), visited the University and met its President, Prof Rami Hamdallah, and its Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Maher Natsheh. They discussed the development of the newly established Faculty of Optometry. The Councilor of the Faculty, attended the meetings and the preparations for signing a memorandum of understanding between both sides. By this memorandum, the WCO will assist the Faculty in providing it with WCO fellows to teach at the Faculty. In return, the University will provide them with shared accommodation at its apartments and will give them salaries based upon the employees’ scale followed at the University. The WCO will assist the University in seeking co-operative agreements with other universities, colleges and equivalent faculties around the world with the aim of exchanging information, staff, students, textbooks and participating in conferences and workshops in the area of optometry.Prof. Hamdallah thanked Prof. Shani for his efforts in supporting the Faculty of Optometry. Prof Shani visited the labs of the Faculty and evaluated the curricula; he also met the Faculty’s teaching staff and its students and discussed with them the shared topics.
The WCO is based in the United States of America, headed by Prof. DDD Shani and has around 2000 member of institutions from many different countries.
