Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Salam Fayyad, Palestinian Prime Minister, and Prof. Rami Hamdallah, University President, and in cooperation between An-Najah and the Palestinian Authority for Environment Quality, and with the sponsorship of Jawwal, the Second International Conference on Palestinian Environment, under the title "On this Land, There is something deserves Life", was held at HRH Prince Turki Bin Abdul-Aziz Theater in the New Campus.

The opening session of the conference was attended by HE. Dr. Salam Fayyad, Prime Minister, Prof Rami Hamdallah, University President, Mr. Jameel Mutawwar, Vice-President of the Palestinian Environment Quality Authority, and Head of the Conference's preparatory committee, Mr. Ammar Aker , CEO of Jawwal, researchers, and persons interested in the arena of the Palestinian environment as well as local media representatives.

Prof. Rami Hamdallah, University President, said in his remarks that this international conference on Palestinian Environment comes as one of the many conferences that are being held at the University which indicate the variety of scientific and community activities at the University.  He added that this conference comes at a time when the Palestinian environment is facing many severe challenges and problems.  Prof Hamdallah also noted that theses conferences and seminars, which are held locally, regionally and internationally, are part of the efforts to protect environment, and that An-Najah ealizes its role in serving the local community.  Prof. Hamdallah invited all concerned parties to work together for the protection the Palestinian environment through holding such conferences and other postitive actions. 

Mr. Jameel Mutawwar, Vice-President of the Palestinian Environment Quality Authority, and Head of the Conference's preparatory committee, thanked An-Najah National University for hosting this conference and Jawwal for sponsoring the event.  He also extended his thanks to HE. Dr. Fayyad for attending the conference's opening session.   Mr. Mutawwar noted the that  this conference is important to protect environment.  He also said that the message of this conference is protect environment through unifying all efforts

Mr. Ammar Aker, CEO of Jawwal, welcomed all attendants and said that this conference is a good opportunity to review and evaluate the status of Palestinian environment.  He also appreciated the efforts of those who worked hard to make this conference a reality.  He pointed out the role of Jawwal in sponsoring events to protect Palestinian environment which is based on its comprehensive vision for sustainable human development in Palestine.

HE. Dr. Salam Fayyad said that holding this conference comes at a time when Palestinian people face many dangers and challenges on the path to establish a Palestinian state.  Dr Fayyad also said that there should be a future vision to protect environment and  build a better future for all.  He also pointed out thate there are different violations to the Palestinian environment.  He demanded all to put efforts together to protect environment and stop all violations, wishing all success in this conference.

The first session focused on subjects related to policies and legislations, environmental systems, and environmental sustainable development.  A number of researchers also presented their papers on issues such as the sustainable agriculture and environment. The second session discussed the issues of water quality and environmental management in Palestine.
