 During a press conference held at An-Najah National University, the Second International Conference on Palestinian Environment was announced.  Dr. Jalal Dabeek, Coordinator of the Scientific Centers at the University, Mr. Jameel Muttawar, the Vice President of Environment Quality Authority, and Eng. Khaled Hajjah, Director of Planning Department at Jawwal, participated in the conference.  The press conference was also attended by a number of the representatives of ministries, Palestinian institutions, media representatives in addition to the directors of the Scientific Centers and heads of departments at the University.

In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Dabeek said that the University is glad to announce the conference on environment held next October. He pointed out that the University has always pledged its support to such activities, especially that this environment conference is receiving a great interest from the experts and decision makers.  That is reflecting the importance uniting all efforts to protect Palestinian environment.

He also talked about the conference's agenda which includes environmental regulations and policies, environmental pollution, climate changes and the negative effects of occupation on the Palestinian environment.

Mr. Muttawer, on his turn, talked about the joint cooperation between different specialized parties for the preparation of this conference between the Ministry of Agriculture, Union of Engineers, Ministries of Local Governance and Health, Energy Authority and An-Najah National University.  He praised all experiences and qualifications at the University thus contributing for the preparation of the conference which is aims at creating a clean environment in Palestine.

He mentioned that the purpose of conference is to cover environmental, social and economic aspects of the Palestinian community through emphasizing on the problems and challenges such as the environmental pollution and methods of facing it. He also emphasized the need for enhancing the cooperation and coordination between governmental institutions and NGOs.

Eng. Khaled Hajjah thanked An-Najah National University for hosting the conference while pointing out the originality of the University and the distinctive staff it has of those participating in scientific research and experts. He expressed Jawwal Company delight for patronizing the conference.  He also emphasized the role of the private sector in preserving the Palestinian environment.
