Second Career Day at Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology
The annual career day was organized last Monday at Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology, with the participation of almost fifteen local technical and industrial companies and workplaces. These companies included from the Palestinian Telecommunications Company (PALTEL), the Arab Islamic Bank and the Electricity Department of Nablus Municipality, in addition to An-Najah Career Unit and Fursa Company for employment and orientation.
The event was opened by Eng. Muhammad Al-Attrash, instructor at the college, who welcomed the participating companies and introduced Eng. Ashraf Kureish, Dean of the college. Mr Kureish gave a speech in which he thanked the participants for their cooperation and attendance which he considered very encouraging for the graduates and the college’s educational process.
A documentary was later projected regarding the phases the Technology college went through from the beginning when it was still an idea until the current time. It showed the different majors and programs offered by the college, the curricula and what kind of job positions the students can obtain locally and regionally after graduating. It also showed some success stories of the college graduates who got involved in the labor market. Finally the film concluded with focus on what the college administration gives to the issue of student support whether financially or on the level of training and employment opportunities.
The graduates later met with the companies and organizations representatives and talked about possible job opportunities at these companies. The students had the opportunity to present their resumes hoping to attract the attention of employers. Several companies expressed their interest in employing a number of the college graduates in the coming few weeks, locally and in the Arab Gulf.
At the end of the day, Eng. Kureish accompanied the participants in a tour around some of the labs and workshops of the college where some of the graduate projects were on display. It deserves mentioning that the college has granted graduation for students in six different majors this year: Computer Networks and Internet, Telecommunications engineering, Industrial Automation, Car Mechanics, Electrical Installation and Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
The career day is considered to be part of the constant efforts of the college to develop the relationships and work opportunities between the community and labor market with its graduate students.
