A Scottish delegation visited the University and met its Director of the Public Relations Department, Dr. Nabil Alawi, who talked about the effects of the current situation on students, teachers and education in Palestine. He also spoke about the financial problems that face the university because of the current political situation. Dr. Alawi added that Nablus was the capital of commercial and trading activities besides industry and now its people have become poorer than ever.
After that Mr. Ala Yousef, Coordinator of the Zajel Youth Exchange Program, explained the activities of the Youth Exchange Program. He spoke about the youth who come from overseas to help the refugee children. He added that students must cross many checkpoints every day and face so many troubles because of the imposed siege.
The Scottish delegation toured the old and new campuses of the university and saw its facilities and the developments it managed to achieve in spite of the current situation. Another tour was organized to the old city of Nablus and Balata Refugee Camp. Guests got first hand information on the difficult conditions people live in. They also paid a visit to the Yafa Cultural Center and received well informed information about the situation of the refugees in Balata Refuge Camp.
