Media Coverage During Wars

Abla Rwais, Presenter at An-Najah Radio Station participated in a training course in Amman/Jordan, organized by Amman Net, Crimes of War Association and UNICEF. The fifteen participants in the course came from Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine. The course focused on media coverage of war crimes and military conflicts as well as the knowledge of international law, its concepts and definitions and the methods by which international law is applied.
The Iraqi war and the ongoing conflict in Palestine were taken as case studies. A further case study was the American attack against the Media Center in Serbia in 1999 where 15 civilians were killed. Every trainee gave his/her own presentation regarding the war crimes of the various countries.
The course trainers were Daoud Kattab, Palestinian journalist and activist in the field of media, Anthoni Dorkin, the executive Director for War Crimes Project, Prof. Shiri Rikshiari, reporter to the American Journalism Review and Professor at Indiana University and Nada Domany, Representative of the International Red Cross.
The participation of Ms. Rwais in this important training course came as part of the continuing efforts of An-Najah to train its employees in their particular fields.
