In cooperation between Public Administration Institute at An-Najah National University, and the Public Administration of Hospitals at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdelfattah Shamleh, Director of the Institute, presented the results of his scientific study on" The Developmental Needs for Palestinian Governmental Hospitals" on Wednesday at the headquarter of Ramallah Governmental Hospital.
T he meeting was attended by Dr. Na'em Sabrah, General Director of Hospitals at the Ministry of Health, his Deputy Muhammad Subuh, Directors of governmental hospitals in the West Bank, CEOs of hospitals and Nursing Directors.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Sabrah welcomed the participants, and expressed the readiness of the Hospitals Administration at the Ministry of Health to cooperate with academics in the scientific research arena to develop the work at the Ministry.

Dr. Shamleh, on his turn, thanked Dr. Sabrah, directors and employees of the hospitals for their cooperation in achieving the mentioned research, and he presented the idea of the research, its purposes, the mechanism of collecting its data and analyzing it, and the results and recommendations of the research.

The research came up with several important results including the urgent need to develop the Palestinian governmental hospitals in terms of crisis and emergency management, human resources, data and infra structure management.  The research showed that there is a need to establish planning and development management, and the need for a mechanism of communication with the public and a mechanism for making use of performance evaluation results, and the need for equipments and installations.

As for human resources, the study showed that there is a demand to attract the medical qualifications, and involving the staff in specialized training courses, and enable them to handle work pressure.  The research also discussed the developmental needs of having relations network, through an electronic network, enhancing the relations between hospitals, and improving the Public Relations role.  The infrastructure needs and development, improving the patients' rooms, the waiting rooms and the public facilities were discussed in the research.

Through the study it turned out that the hospitals of Darwish Nazzal and Abu Al-Hasan Al-Qassim in Qalqilia city were the neediest hospitals as they lack medical staff, equipment, installations, rooms and necessary infra structure. T here was also a need to administratively develop the hospitals in terms of training in medical specializations, usage of technology, maintenance and dealing with the public.

The results of the research were discussed and participants in the meeting came up with the some recommendations such as the need to meet the developmental needs with priority integrative plans for the development process; the need for training, human and technical intervention and establishing specialized centers for the treatment of: cancer, nerves and heart diseases.
