Professor Jawad Fatayer Participates in a Workshop at Dura Society for Science and Academy in Hebron
On July 23rd, Professor Jawad Fatayer, President Assistant for Graduate Affairs at An-Najah University, participated in the workshop that was held by Dura Society for Science and Academy at the Dura’s Martyrs Cultural Center in Hebron. The workshop was titled “Tawjihi….What Next?” which focused on discussing a number of issues related to Tawjihi students in Palestine.
Attendees included: Dr. Mohammad Abu Zaid, Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education in Palestine, Mr. Alaa Al-Ja’bari, Director of the Ministry’s office in Hebron, Mr. Fouzi Abu Halil, Director of the Education Directorate in the South, Mr. Mustafa Al-Rjoub, Mayor of Dura, in addition to a number of representatives of several universities in the West Bank, as well as Tawjihi students and their families.
In the workshop, Professor Fatayer spoke about the history of An-Najah University, its establishment and its status among other universities inside and outside the country.
Moreover, he described the different academic programs and majors that the University offers to its students and the types of scholarships that it provides. He also highlighted the University’s deep concern with continuous change and development and an educational system that is based primarily on competency development. This has encouraged the establishment of the Competency Development Program at the University which focuses on preparing students for the real life and equipping them with a variety of skills that they will need in the workplace.
Furthermore, Professor Fatayer explained that his Office works on holding workshops on a regular basis to sharpen the students’ skills including English language skills; he added that there are many things that employers consider when choosing or accepting employees other than the university GPA. Skills, experience and personal competency are key factors in determining whether a person would be hired or not. This area is currently the main focus in which the University invests in order to produce competent and qualified experts in the different fields of life.
