A workshop organized by the Poison Control and Drug Information Center (PCDIC) was held with the Ministry of National Economy. The PCDIC was represented by its Director, Dr. Ansam Sawalha and by Mr. Saed Zyoud, Toxicology Information Specialist. Mr. Fahed Bany Odeh, Head of the Consumer Protection Agency, represented the Ministry of National Economy, along with Department engineer, Mr. Tareq Abu Ghoush.
Several issues of interest were discussed, including the following points brought up by Dr. Sawalha: modifying product labels to include detailed descriptions of the contents and their concentrations; the importance of providing a phone number for the producer or the importer on the package itself; and the inclusion of the PCDIC toll free number (1800-500-000) on cleaning products’ containers, in the event that customers encounter any side-effects related to the use of the cleaning products. Mr. Zyoud emphasized the importance of conducting tests on randomly collected samples, especially those of milk and other dietary items, to ensure they are from of contamination of toxins. Mr. Bany Odeh indicated the importance of collaboration between the Consumer Protection Agency and the PCDIC, as well as avowing that, as they are highly beneficial to the local community, the Ministry would take the points discussed into serious consideration. The workshop also included discussion on future collaboration between the two parties.
