PCDIC and CSC Conduct Two Educational Workshops in Collaboration with the Ladies Club in Asira El-Shamalia The Community Service Center/Mobile Center in collaboration with the Poison Control and Drug Information Center (PCDIC) and the Ladies Club conducted a series of two educational workshops at Asira El-Shamalia.
The workshops are part of the community awareness program that is devoted to towns in the Nablus Municipality area. Dr. Ansam Sawalha, Director of the PCDIC, held the workshops; the first of which was about “how to prevent poisoning and toxins at home.” Dr. Sawalha spoke about poisons such as medications, cleaning agents, cosmetics, pesticides, some plants, and others that are present in homes. She spoke about a number of topics including ways by which chemicals enter our bodies, a spectrum of side effects, acute vs. chronic poisoning, and methods of prevention that include mainly safe handling and storage.The second workshop was about “safe use of medications,” in which Dr. Sawalha spoke about an array of topics including correct dosage, storage, safe disposal, drug interaction, over-the-counter medications, expiration dates, and routes of administration. Dr. Sawalha talked in detail about antibiotics, analgesics, and medications for chronic illness since these are the most common. Mrs. Afnan Hassan, Chairman for the awareness program at the mobile center gave a briefing about the activities of the mobile center and the Community Service Center at An-Najah National University.There were many questions from the audience about the above topics whose answers were all addressed by Dr. Sawalha. Mrs. Kifah Sudqi, Director for the Ladies Club expressed her thanks in the name of the participants for Dr. Sawalha and Mrs. Hassan for these workshops, which she believes are very important and educational. The women who attended the workshops expressed interest in further workshops with similar educational benefits in the near future.
