PARC Awards Researchers from the University for the 2005-2006 Academic Year
The Palestinian American Research Council, PARC, announced the award of $120,000 in fellowships for the 2005-2006 academic year. This year’s recipients are multi-national group of 22 deserving scholars whose research encompasses a broad range of topics in the area of Palestinian studies.
“It is an honour to award these fellowships to such deserving individuals” said Denis Sullivan, Director of PARC`s U.S office in Boston, Mr. Sullivan added “the research of these distinguished scholars is vital in promoting scholarly exchange of Palestinian issues, and we are particularly pleased such a variety of disciplines is represented this year.” Nationals from the United States, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Israel, France, and Germany received awards, and they will undertake projects in academic fields ranging from biology to history and from anthropology to environmental science.
PARC fellowships are granted annually to encourage and promote research in Palestinian studies; the competition is open to doctoral and post-doctoral researchers and scholars from a broad range of disciplines.
The generous grants were given by Ford Foundation, as well as the U.S Department of Education and the U.S. Department of State (Educational and Cultural Affairs), PARC was able to fund 22 scholarships in this fifth year of the organization’s annual fellowship competition.
Prof. Rami Hamdallah, the University President said that the awarding of three scholarships to An-Najah is a great achievement for the University professors who dedicate their time for scientific research; it encourages the University to put more efforts into researching. He also congratulated the professors for their award.
The winners were: Dr. Mohammad Al-Masri, Assistant Professor at the Water and Environmental Studies Institute, Dr. Hassan Arafat, Assistant Professor, Chemical Engineering Department, Dr. Riyad Abdel-Karim, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering Department and Dr. Amer Hamouz, Associate Professor, Chemical Engineering Department.
PARC congratulated the distinguished scholarship recipients of its fellowship awards for the 2005-2006 academic year. PARC is a Palestinian American Research Centre dedicated to promoting Palestinian studies and scholarly exchange on Palestinian issues. its mission is to promote understanding and cooperation between American and Palestinian scholars as they seek to increase the quality, range and depth of Palestinian studies.
