The recently deceased Palestinian national poet Mahmoud Darwish was remembered today at An-Najah National University with a day of presentations on his works.  The event was attended by President Rami Hamdallah, Dr. JamalMuhesin, Governor of Nablus, and Dr. Khalil Odeh, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and several Palestinian writers and poets.
President Hamdallah said the late prominent Palestinian poet Darwish had added a deep humane and artistic dimension to the Palestinian cause.  Dr. Odeh said that Darwish had given voice to the Palestinian dream of statehood and helped forge a Palestinian national identity and sense of justice.
Dr. Yahya Jabir of the Arabic Department briefly went over the life and works of Darwish.   Noted poets and recitors of the country recited several of Darwish's poems.  Darwish died on August 9, 2008 following a heart surgery in the USA.   He was buried in the city of Ramallah and granted a state funeral.
