On Monday, February 14^th, a press conference was organized at the Media Center to announce the launching of the First Consumer Protection Conference which will be held by the Palestinian Council for Consumer Protection and consumer protection societies in cooperation with An Najah University on March 16^th at the University.

The press conference was attended by Nablus Governor, Major-General Jibrin Al-Bakri, Dr. Sam Alfoqahaa, Acting Director of the Public Relations Department at the University, Mr. Salah Haneyyeh, Coordinator of the consumer protection societies, Dr. Majeed Mansour, Head of the Department of Marketing at the University and Chairperson of the Preparatory Committee of the conference, as well as Mr. Eyad Anabtawi, Head of the Consumer Protection Society in Nablus.

The conference opened with a speech by Dr. Alfoqahaa in which he expressed the University’s pleasure to host this conference, for it addresses the Palestinian consumer who suffers from the occupation and the limited income. The conference aims to raise the awareness of the Palestinian people who is the considered the main base of the sustainable development in Palestine.

Al-Bakri on his part expressed his support of the conference indicating that the Palestinian National Authority represented by its different institutions will focus on addressing price issues, quality, and the safety of the people. He also highlighted the efforts that the Nablus Governorate carries out with respect to consumer protection, following up on price issues, services, and the safety of the citizens.

Mr. Haneyyeh said that this conference is the first of its kind in Palestine that will shed light on issues related to consumer protection and the daily suffering of the people. Many topics will be addressed at the conference that are of concern to consumer protection societies in Palestine.

At the end of the conference, the speakers answered the questions presented by the journalists.
