On March 1st, third-year students from the Faculty of Nursing at the University who are enrolled in the Critical Care Nursing course at the Faculty made two field visits to Rafidia Government Hospital and Nablus Speciality Hospital in the city.

The first visit was organized in coordination with Dr. Khaled Saleh, Director of Rafidia Hospital, and Mr. Ayman Enayat, Deputy Director of Nursing at the Hospital, to let the students have a close look at the medical ventilator and train them on how to use it.

Mr. Farid Abu Leil in cooperation with Dr. Aidah Al-Kaissi, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing at the University, explained how the ventilator works and how to care for the patient who undergoes treatment using this device.

Mr. Ayman Qasem and Dr. Al-Kaissi explained the anesthesia device during the students’ visit to the operating room at the hospital to get a close look at the anesthesia device and the drugs that are given to anesthetize the patient, and to identify the various methods of anesthesia.

In cooperation with Dr. Yousef Al Masri, Director of Nablus Speciality Hospital, and Miss. Randa Abdou, Director of Nursing at the Hospital, the students also visited the Nablus Speciality Hospital where they were introduced to the heart-lung machine that is used during open-heart surgeries.

Ahmed Abu Sbeha and Dr. Al-Kaissi explained to the students the cardiopulmonary device in addition to the Intra Aortic Balloon (IABP) (which is a mechanical device that increases myocardial oxygen perfusion while at the same time increasing cardiac output); it is used in case the patient is exposed to a cardiogenic shock at the end of an open- heart surgery or due to other reasons.

At the end of the visits, Dr. Al-Kaissi thanked Dr. Khalid Saleh, Dr. Yousef Al Masri, Mr. Ayman Enayat, Miss Randa Abdou, Mr. Farid Abu leil, Mr. Ayman Qasem, and Mr. Ahmed Abu Sbeha for their cooperation in organizing the field visits and for their help in educating the students about the different medical devices that are available at hospitals.
