In cooperation with the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem, An-Najah University inaugurated the American Corner in Nablus. Attendees to the opening ceremony included Mr. Daniel Rubinstein, Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, President of An-Najah, Brigadier Jibrin Al-Bakri, Governor of Nablus, Dr. Ayman Nazzal, Director of the American Studies Resource Center, in addition to a number of Vice Presidents, Deputy Presidents, Faculties’ Deans and others.

In the ceremony, Prof. Hamdallah welcomed Mr. Rubinstein and thanked the Consulate General for its cooperation and unique relationship with An-Najah which has yielded many successful projects and programs between the two sides. Such projects have brought substantial benefit for the students and employees at An-Najah.

He hoped that the establishment of the American Corner with all its electronic resources would provide the university students with the knowledge they need to have about other cultures.

Dr. Nazzal said that the establishment of this corner would increase the chances of cultural exchange between Palestinians and Americans as it contains many equipments and important resources that would enable the Palestinian individual to have a closer look at the different cultures of the world. This cultural exchange shall contribute to the bridging of the cultural gap between people and enhance understanding and cooperation.

Mr. Rubinstein mentioned that the services that this corner is expected to provide will surely help reinforce partnership between Palestine and the US the same way as the American Studies Resource Center has contributed significantly to the enhancement of the Palestinian’s acquaintance with the American culture especially with respect to academic life in the States and the traditions and customs of the American people. This Corner helps Palestinians to obtain huge amounts of information about the different aspects of life in the States.

Brigadier Al-Bakri expressed impression by the continuous achievements that An-Najah is making that concentrate on bringing benefit upon Palestinians especially university students. He added that the American Corner will help the students to get more information about the US and its academic life.
