Omar Abu Zaidah, a student from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at An-Najah University, was elected as a regional coordinator for the projects and events of the International Federation for Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA) in the Middle East for the year 2011-2012.

Abu Zaidah was elected after his active participation with the Palestinian delegation that participated in the IFMSA’s 60^th General Assembly which was held in Copenhagen, Denmark between August 1^st and 7^th 2011. During the Assembly, Abu Zaidah was also elected as a member in the International Supervising Committee on the modification sessions of the laws and international elections of the Federation.

Abu Zaidah is considered one of the students who had significant contribution to the IFMSA in Palestine and its branch at An-Najah University through his participation in two major IFMSA general assemblies, the first being in Tunisia in 2009 and the other in Denmark in 2011. Abu Zaidah has also participated in more than 20 projects for the IFMSA as well as 12 local conferences; he also coordinated more than 10 projects such as the NORPAL SAWA 2011 project, a student exchange project that witnessed substantial success and was mentioned in the scientific journal of the IFMSA’s projects.

He also occupied a number of local positions including the position of Public Safety Committee Officer at An-Najah (2006/2007), Chief Financial Officer for the IFMSA in Palestine (2008/2009) and President of the IFMSA for the year (2010/2011).

Abu Zaidah presented his success to his country and University and to all those who supported him. Dr. Waleed Basha, Head of the Microbiology and Immunology Department at An-Najah and Coordinator of the IFMSA’s affairs at the University, expressed his pride of the achievements that the IFMSA achieves in Palestine through its three branches in Al-Quds, Al-Azhar and An-Najah universities. He also wished An-Najah more achievements in the future on the local and international levels.
