President Rami Hamdallah and Dr. Fathi Abu Mughli, the Palestinian Minister of Health, inaugurated today a week of activities for poison prevention.   The University's Poison Control and Drug Information Center (PCDIC) has announced the week of activities in conjunction with the National Poison Prevention Week.  The Week is a nationally designated activity to highlight the dangers of poisonings and how to prevent them.

Dr. Ansam Sawalha, Director of the PCDIC, said that a very high percent of poisonings occur in the homes and the majority of non-fatal poisonings occur in children younger than six years old.  "This week invites people to review the information on poison prevention and become more actively involved in helping to ensure the safety of children and adults in their homes and their communities," Dr. Sawalha added.

The Week will also give the Palestinian public valuable tools to prevent poison exposures and some life-saving information about the PCDIC.  Dr. Sawalha urged the University's students and the greater community in Nablus area to attend the week of activities in order to learn more about poison prevention.
