Najah Holds its Second Documentary Film Festival
In cooperation with the United Nation Population Fund, UNFPA, the Department of Journalism at An-Najah National University organized its Second Documentary Film Festival on the 14th December 2004; six documentaries were competing in order to win the three prizes which were donated by the UNFPA.
Films were prepared and edited by the students of the Journalism Department, "Woman in Death Castles" wined the first prize, this documentary presents the life conditions of the Palestinian woman in the Israeli prisons, the second winner was the documentary of "Will on a Wheelchair" that embodies the will of a Palestinian girl who was shot and became disabled, she had to struggle in order to continue her higher education at An-Najah National University. The third winner was the documentary of "Girls Study Abroad" that introduces the cultural differences and the double standards in dealing with gender issues.
Dr. Hafiz Shukair, the Director of the UNFPA in Palestine thanked An-Najah National University for its efforts that enabled this project to see the light in spite of difficulties that make such project a hard mission. He added that the UNFPA in Palestine will continue its support to the Journalism Department.
Dr.Samar Shunar, the Head of the Journalism Department said that the documentaries of this festival embodied the Palestinian reality; she also added that this project will continue to serve the Palestinian community in the fields of media and communication.
