Memorandum of Understanding Between the Ministry of Economics and An-Najah National University on the Rights of Intellectual Property
On Sunday, November 24th, 2013, An-Najah National University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Economics on Intellectual Property Rights, with the hope of strengthening the bonds of cooperation, and of enhancing partnership and business between the University and its supportive institutes and the industrial and services sectors which aspire to enhance the national economy in the fields of intellectual property.
The Memorandum was signed by His Excellency. Dr. Jawad Najy, the Minister of National Economy; and Prof. Maher Natsheh, the Acting President of An-Najah National University; in the presence of Prof. Amer Hmouz, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology in the University; Dr. Yahya Saleh, the Director of the An-Najah Innovation and Industrial Partnership Center; Dr. Sam Al-Fouqahaa, the Director of Public Relations Department; and the Engineer Ahmad Abu Reideh, from the Center. Representing the Ministry at this signing were Bashar Saifi, the General Manager of the Directorate of National Economy in Nablus Governorate; Ali Douqan, the Acting President of the General Directorate of Intellectual Property; Isam Hirz-Allah, the Vice President of the Intellectual Property General Directorate; and Mahmoud Abu-Shanab, the Director of Public Relations and Media in the Ministry.
The Memorandum aims to provide citizens with services in the field of industrial property, developing the intellectual property in Palestine by educating the masses about these rights, encouraging students’ and researchers’ creativity and enabling them to understand patents widely, enabling the universities and centers of scientific research to benefit from the process of data transfer through the patents of innovation and employ them in the process of advancement and sustainable development, in addition to enabling the micro- and intermediate companies and industrial sectors to profit from the patents which contribute in creating a sustainable investment environment that encourages and supports the economic, social and intellectual environments.
The signing of the Memorandum with An-Najah University’s Innovation and Partnership Center (NaBIC) works towards encouraging the scientific innovations - supporting the students, scholars, and innovators by correlating them with the fact and reality of the Palestinian market, and helping them promote their products, and providing graduates with work opportunities in the fields where they conducted their research so that they can provide solutions or developments in these areas. It also provides opportunities to support and improve scientific research, which will greatly advance the service, productivity and industrial sectors, and transfer knowledge and information and invest them in Palestine.
His Excellency the Minister expressed his pleasure in signing this Memorandum with the University, for the University has a great academic and research reputation worldwide, and it is equipped with expertise and capacities.
He also congratulated the University on the great achievements it accomplished over the past years on the level of winning advanced ranks in international evaluations of universities.
Dr. Natsheh thanked the Minister of National Economy for his visit and for signing the Memorandum, and he also gave a presentation on the University and the latest achievements in the academic and research areas.
