On Thursday, October 22, 2015 Mr. Takashi Okubo, the Japanese Representative to the Palestinian Authority visited An-Najah along with a number of delegates from the Japanese Representative Office to discuss possible means of cooperation.

Mr. Okubo and the delegates were received by Dr. Mohammad El-Amleh, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who talked about An-Najah's facilities, scientific centers and academic programmes and commended the Japanese consistent support to the Palestinian people.

In turn, Mr. Okubo stressed the importance of academic cooperation between Palestine and Japan as well as the Japanese role in offering aid to the Palestinian people. He added that Japan is aspiring to build further relations with Palestine.

Dr. Alia Assali, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training suggested a joint teachers' rehabilitation project that is based on training teachers on implementing technology in the teaching-learning process.

Dr. Adnan Melhem, President’s Assistant for Social Affairs talked about the possibility of having academic exchange programmes between An-Najah and Japanese universities, and An-Najah’s interest in having native speakers of Japanese teach the language at An-Najah.

Ms Dalal Radwan, Personal Assistant to the Vice President for International Development and External Affairs briefed the guests on the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers programme at An-Najah.

During his visit to An-Najah, the Japanese Representative also attended a lecture on the educational system in Japan given by Dr. Alia Assali, in which she discussed how Palestine can learn from the Japanese unique experience in education.

 Notes:

-         The meeting was also attended by Dr. Waleed Basha, Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and Mr. Khaled Mufleh, Acting Director of the Public Relations Department at An-Najah.

-         Mr. Okubo was given a tour of An-Najah’s New Campus where he visited the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. He also visited An-Najah Hospital.
