In cooperation between An Najah National University and the British Council, the Lighting Lamps exhibition for caricature drawings was inaugurated at the Faculty of Fine Arts by the University's President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah and the British Council’s Director in Palestine, Mrs. Sandra Hamrouni.
The exhibition was attended by the British Council's staff, Dr. Hasan N'erat, the Faculty of Fine Arts Dean, as well as a number of the faculties' deans and representatives of local community institutions.
Dr. N'erat thanked both the University and the British Council for holding the exhibition and stressed the importance of the mutual cooperation between An Najah National University and the British Council.
The exhibition is part of the 2004 Regional Project titled "Media and Society" that is sponsored by the British Council, the Guardian Institution and the Global Services Branch of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The project aims at establishing a media network through which media specialists from different Arab countries like Palestine, Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia as well as the United Kingdom could cooperate with each other in the field of media.
A number of famous Arab caricaturists participated in the exhibition like Armand Homsi from Lebanon, Ali Farzat from Syria, Emad Hajjaj and Jalal Al-Refa'I from Jordan, Amer Shomali and Basel Naser from Palestine and others who, through their works, were able to reflect the social issues of their countries. The same exhibition was held in the United Kingdom at the Guardian Newspaper Hall on July 2009 in which more than 60 caricature drawings were presented.
