An-Najah National University has made another achievement that is added to its numerous previous achievements. The Webometrics website, which specializes in detecting the activities of the most advanced electronic academic websites in the field of researches, studies, reports, and electronic pages in the world, has mentioned that An-Najah National University has been ranked first in the evaluation of universities in Palestine, tenth in the Arab world and number 1616 internationally.  The website has detected, on Wednesday 10th of February 2010, that An-Najah has been ranked tenth in the Arab world from among five hundred universities that have been tested, as well as more than 17 thousand universities around the world.
University President, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, expressed his admiration for this achievement. He also emphasized that this achievement proves that An-Najah offers whatever possible to serve its students and staff community.  This came during a press conference on Sunday that was organized by the Ministry of Information. The conference was attended by a number of journalists and others.
Prof. Hamdallah said that this achievement is added to its many achievements which the University has made in support of the academic and institutional work which abide by the professional rules.  Add to this that An-Najah is committed to scientific research and supports it with whatever needed.  Prof. Hamdallah also insured that An-Najah will continue to hold this position and remain one of the leading universities locally and internationally. It is worth mentioning that this evaluation done by the Webometrics website (www.webometrics.info) is updated every six months.
The best universities are being classified internationally on the basis that the activities of each university comes visible on their websites and is based on four criteria such as researches, their numbers and the studies and reports that are published electronically on the university's website. Other criteria include the size of the website's pages of a certain university such as An-Najah. Also, the criterion of how much the university uses external links and search engines. and the criterion of rich files in which the number of electronic files are calculated in their different types.
Moreover, the addition of the E-Learning website which enables each instructor to have a specific location to download the contents of his / her material, to be in contact with his/her students, to be able to download huge amounts of data like free books, periodicals and others.

The Teaching Hospital

During the press conference, Prof. Hamdallah also said that the Teaching Hospital represents a unique progress in the filed of medicine in Palestine. He also pointed out that this hospital within an agreement that includes the transfer of the National Hospital to the new An Najah National Teaching Hospital. Moreover, he mentioned that the University has made great progress in equipping the Hospital and pointed out that this hospital will be the largest one with a capacity of 600 beds.
Regarding the cooperation with the Palestinian government, Prof. Hamdallah said that this hospital is considered the first experience that signifies the cooperation between the Government and the private sector in which there are going to be cooperation agreement that organize work in this hospital. He also hoped that all the necessary potentials would be provided to finish working on this project.
Prof. Hamdallah also spoke about the preparations that the University has made concerning the second semester. He pointed out that the number of the University students has reached 18,800 students this semester, and mentioned that An Najah grants the Bachelor degree in 68 programs and the Master in 38 programs also. An Najah is unique in that it offers a PhD in Chemistry and that there are plans to start by a PhD program in Physics and Mathematics in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education.

Media Center 

Concerning the Media Center that An Najah is establishing, Prof. Hamdallah said it will start operating it as soon as possible. The center will host An Najah Radio Station and will be opened to journalists. It will also be a means to contact other stations and will be used to train students.
The new library at the New Campus, however, which is the library of the scientific faculties, will be finished soon and will be a huge library that includes thousands of books, periodicals and reports. Prof. Hamdallah also said that the University is currently building the Faculty of Nursing at the New Campus and carries out expansion works for the Faculty of Engineering.
Regarding the student loans issue, Prof. Hamdallah said that the Central Loans Fund is administered by the Ministry of Higher Education, and more than 5000 students were granted loans and scholarships according to their financial conditions. Prof. Hamdallah thanked the Palestinian Government, headed by Dr. Salam Fayyad, for its support of the universities and looked forward to continue this cooperation.
Prof. Hamdallah also mentioned that the tuitions at the Palestinian universities are low and affordable in comparison to other universities around the world. He further spoke about the Faculty of Medicine and said that graduates are tested under an accredited international committee which has given the graduates of An Najah Faculty of Medicine a unique international evaluation.
