08 December 2010
On Wednesday, December 8th 2010, the Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Law and the Palestinian Non Governmental Organization Against Domestic Violence Against Women (Al Muntada) organized a moot court titled "Honor Crime in Contrast to the Provisions of Article 340 of the Penal Code".
The moot court was held at the Korean-Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence at the New Campus in conjunction with the International Day for Combating Violence Against Women. Dr. Akram Daoud, Dean of the Faculty of Law, mentioned that holding this court reflects the Faculty's interest in interacting and cooperating with the different civil society institutions with respect to legal issues that are of concern to the Palestinian public.
He added that through the Legal Clinic that has been recently introduced to the University, the Faculty of Law works on establishing relationships with the concerned institutions in order to increase awareness of the public and expand their legal knowledge. The clinic also offers free of charge legal services and consultancies to different groups of people in Palestine.
This event was organized to shed light on the issue of violence against women in the Palestinian society. The participants called upon the decision makers to try to modify the regulations that are related to this issue in order to protect the rights of women and eliminate violence against them.
