 The Faculty of Engineering at An-Najah National University has published the first issue of its magazine “World of Engineering”. This magazine is the first one of its kind to be issued in Palestine.  Dr. Nabil Dmaidi, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Chief Editor of the magazine, said that the magazine’s purpose is to serve the  Palestinian community and to spread engineering information using simply understood images.
He added that the first issue includes variable engineering information along with the descriptions of a number of specializations and the role that each one plays in day to day life. He indicated that the magazine highlights the experiences of some citizens with projects such as fixing roofs, planting on them, building cracks and other subjects.
In the first issue margin, there are indexes for some projects being implemented by students of the Faculty of Engineering. The issue includes explanations of new specializations in the Faculty of Engineering such as “Mechatronics Engineering” and “Communications Engineering,” in addition to the Scientific Engineering Centers. The magazine discloses comedic engineering news; such as the recent marriage of an 85 year old Engineer. It also shows developmental sides of the students and the skills that they should have when demonstrating their graduation projects. The magazine highlights some of the students’ distinctive projects with pictures.
Dr.Dmaidi added that those who can’t get a printed copy of the magazine can receive an electronic version from the University website, http://www.najah.edu or then can send an e-mail to the magazine editor, [email protected].  The Editing Committee of the magazine, which consists of Heads of Departments at the Faculty, expressed their interest for expanding the magazine, so that it becomes a useful facility for specialists, citizens, businessmen and manufacturers, and at the same time be a domain that will benefit Palestine and its people.
In a comment on the releasing of the first issue of the magazine, Prof. Rami Hamdallah, the University's President, said in an interview, that engineering means interacting with our surroundings.The faculty magazine comes as part of the larger university strategy to serve the Palestinian community and communicate with it by all means.  Prof. Hamdallah referred to the importance of the magazine in creating awareness in the society, its institutions and individuals and stated that it also creates a communication domain between the two. He stressed the importance in projecting the leading role of the Faculty of Engineering and what it can represent to the community along with its educational role. The coordinator of the magazine, Eng. Muhammad Dwikat, instructor on Construction Engineering and specialist in engineering media, said that this is the first engineering magazine in Palestine. He invited the readers to interact with them and provide the creators with input as to improve the quality of the magazine to promote continuity in its role in the service of the country and its citizens.
The editing committee is now preparing for the second issue which will focus on graduation projects of the students and their role in developing various engineering sectors.
