December 16th 2010. In its quest to achieve its goals and as part of the activities that it carries out, the Earth Sciences and Seismic Engineering Center (ESSEC) in cooperation with the National Agency for Disasters Risk Mitigation contacted a number of governorates and municipalities in the West Bank through a number of reports and letters in which the ESSEC called upon them to apply the standards and the requirements of the disaster risk reduction in  their plans.

It specifically focused on the implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2010 and the requirements and objectives of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction UN-ISDR which is concerned with building the nations and societies' resilience to disasters.

The ESSEC also followed up on the world campaign "Building the Resilience of Nations and Communities to Disasters" according to the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction UN-ISDR. Fifteen municipalities in the West Bank have been addressed and provided with the ten-point checklist of essentials for making cities resilient as well as the most important standards needed to reduce disasters risks in general, and those of earthquakes in particular.

The ESSEC also began preparing to organize workshops with governorates and municipalities in the West Bank to address this issue. During the current month, documents will be distributed among the different municipalities in Gaza Strip and the ESSEC will coordinate with the related institutions to begin to implement those standards.
