Courses on Computer Usage for Visually Impaired Students
The Computer Center for Visually Impaired People at An-Najah National University held two courses on the usage of computers that are equipped with speech program and Braille system screens for visually impaired people. The two courses were organized in cooperation with the General Union of Disabled People in Nablus. This is part of the University's endeavor for transferring the available experiences to the targeted groups and in the context of the University's responsibility to put all its potentials in the service of the community.
The participants in the two courses were students of visual needs who either graduated from the University or who desire to continue their higher education at An-Najah. The courses lasted for 30 hours for each group, and participants trained on using the computer according to Braille system.
Mr. Ahmad Hussein, the Center's Supervisor, and the trainer in these courses said that these are very important for the visually impaired people as they can print their curriculum in the Braille language and opens the door for using advanced technology such as the electronic mail and the world web, as well as getting to get acquainted with researches and modern studies in the arenas of their specializations. It is worth noting that the Center prepares the curriculum printed in the Braille language that facilitates the academic life for visually impaired students from the University. The Center aims at stressing the importance of using computers in the modern life, raising the awareness of the visually impaired of this point and also encouraging them to develop their science and research skills through using computers.
