Concluding workshop on Guidance in Technical and Vocational Education
A workshop on guidance in technical and vocational education and training has been concluded at college. The project was organized by the Teachers Creativity Center in cooperation with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Program in Palestine (TVET).
Teachers of technical education as well as education consultants in Nablus attended the workshop which lasted for two days and aimed to help them in promoting the technical and vocational education and training to school students in order to help them choose a suitable technical major of study.
The lectures were given by Mrs. Faten Yameen, Supervisor of the Vocational Training at the Guiding Section of the Ministry of Education. She delivered speeches about the current situation regarding the technical and vocational education in Palestine and gave a historical review on the topic. She pointed out the main elements of the national strategy of the TVET in Palestine, talking about the vocational education in the Ministry’s high schools and summarizing some of the headlines of their studying plans, such as curricula in industrial schools. Finally she gave the attendants an index of Palestinian vocational training institutions and technical colleges.
A presentation on Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology was given as a case study of technical colleges in Palestine. Mr. Ashraf Kureish, Dean of the College, referred to the system of the college by which students graduate after two years of study, obtaining a diploma in one of nine possible majors which is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education. He also explained the new one-year program that targets students who didn’t pass the Tawjihi High School exam or students who dropped out of school in several technical majors. He pointed out that in the last couple of months the college has conducted five different short courses for the rehabilitation of existing labors in mechanics and electrics.
Mr. Kureish also stated that college graduates could achieve a great success after graduation. They can do this by holding good job positions in Palestine and other Arab countries through their involvement in the labor market, or by joining different programs in the Palestinian and Jordanian universities through the Bridging system, after passing the Al-Shammel Exam.
